POSTCARD

Now I am in Mexico and it is very beautiful. I am in a hotel in the capital of Mexico. I like how the people are and the its gastronomy. The weather is really warm.
In this country we can do a lot of activities. I have met two girls who are very friendly, Natalie and Laura. They have taught me a lot of things from Mexico. We have also ridden horses, visited museums and monuments.
I’d like to get to know other cities and spend some time on holidays even though I have visited some.
I will stay two more days in Mexico and I will go to the USA to visit my cousins.
I hope you are well. I’ll write again soon.

UNIT 4: ON THE MOVE
PERFECT PEOPLE - GENT PERFECTA
Doctor Hal West was Layla's plastic surgeon. `In the past my patients were older´, he says. `But now I see about twenty teenagers every week. they want to be more attractive, and that's OK. But we can't solve everybody's problem with an operation. one mother wanted surgery for her eleven-year-old daughter, who was overweight and `not popular enough´ at school. In my opinion, that's irresponsible´.
Plastic surgery can be dangerous and painful but it is common in the USA and Brazil, and it's also becoming more popular in the UK. A British magazine recently asked girls, aged thirteen to fifteen, for their opinions. Forty percent wanted plastic surgery. Only eight percent were happy with their bodies. But why?
Maybe there are too many images of ` perfect people´ in magazines and on television. People see these images and feel ugly. Doctor West confirms that people often bring pictures to his clinic: `Boys sometimes bring pictures of Brad Pitt´, he says. `The girls want Jennifer Aniston's nose or Jennifer Lopez's curves´. But will these people be different after their operations? You don't need a perfect body to be beautiful or happy.

LIFE ON THE ROCKS - VIDA EN LES ROQUES
Tiree is quiet and beautiful. There aren’t many cars on the island, and when I visited the primary school the children were having a special lesson to teach them about traffic. This is important for the children if they go to the mainland. At the secondary school there were only foty-two students. On the smaller islands of the Hebrides there aren’t any schools, so the children must go to school by ferry. Sometimes, if the weather’s really bad, they can’t go home.
I stayed in Tiree’s one town, Scarinish. There aren’t any shopping centres or cinemas here, but a mobile cinema sometimes comes from the mainland. At the youth club, teenagers were playing traditional music. Some of them were speaking Gaelic, which most people in Britain can’t understand. The community is traditional, but it is also very active and alive. Tiree is a great place for sport. There’s a windsurfing championship every year in October.
